THE SCIENTIFIC STUDIES

Microbiological Effects of Diode Laser Treatment of Periodontal Pockets,
V.I. Haraszthy, M.M. Zambon, S.G. Ciancio, and J.J. Zambon, J Dent Res 85(Spec Iss A): 1163, 2006

Conclusions: Diode laser treatment together with scaling and root planing of ≥5mm pockets did not adversely
affect the subgingival microflora. Diode laser treatment was efficacious in these periodontal pockets in reducing bacterial numbers and the proportion of A. actinomycetemcomitans. Since A. actinomycetemcomitans infection
in periodontal pockets frequently necessitates antibiotic therapy, the diode laser may offer an alternative means
of controlling this pathogen in periodontal pockets.   Full abstract

A Diode Laser as An Adjunct to Periodontal Surgery, J. SANZ MOLINER, S.G. Ciancio,
J Dent Res 88(Spec Iss A): 847, 2009

Conclusion: The use of the diode laser as an adjunct to periodontal surgery provided less post operative
pain and tissue edema and was safe to oral tissues.   Full abstract

Clinical Effects of Diode Laser Treatment on Wound Healing, S.G. Ciancio, M. Kazmierczak,
J.J. Zambon, S. Baumgartner, M.A. Bessinger, and A. Ho, J Dent Res 85(Spec Iss A): 2183, 2006

Conclusions: Diode laser therapy in conjunction with SRP showed no adverse effects on wound healing
associated with scaling and root planing and improved patient soft tissue comfort and reduced tooth sensitivity
in 70% of the patients. Also, improvements in gingival health were more stable in the SRPL group.
